  But how long is Dark Horse's license good for?  "Near future" doesn't sound very long.
  
  I don't particularly care about Star Wars itself.  I just see this is as one more thing controlled by a huge media empire.  Increasingly, the answer to "What does Disney not own?" seems to be simply "GE, NewsCorp, Warner, Viacom, and CBS".

  Most of the discussion has centered on Star Wars -- and well, I say without hyperbole that I wouldn't be who I am today without the original trilogy -- but the other thing that's getting talked about far less: ILM has previously been a vendor to all the major studios/production houses. (And I hope I'm correct in assuming that this acquisition includes all of Lucasfilm's assets/divisions).

  
  

  The industry's premiere special effects vendor is now being controlled by a single studio. That could affect American films much more profoundly than Disney owning (and possibly further corrupting) Star Wars.

  According to this article, Disney's acquisition of LucasFilm was primarily focused on Star Wars - anything above and beyond is considered a "bonus."
  
  They did say they had no immediate plans for Indiana Jones, however.

  What I find to be interesting is the cycle of ownership:
  
  1) LucasFilm creates PIXAR, which branches off and contracts with Disney
  2) Disney CEO Michael Eisner is ousted by the Board, replaced by PIXAR CEO John Lasseter
  3) John Lasseter buys PIXAR - so Disney owns PIXAR, but PIXAR runs Disney
  4) Years later, Disney buys LucasFilm
  
  Yes. The circle is complete!
