Cover for Gourmand Go.
Two local comic stores have already contacted me for copies. Which is... weird, because in 5 years only one store has ever asked me about the Sixsmiths. In the last 5 months I have contacted every store I could in Australia and New Zealand to tell them that Sixsmiths was in Previews at least one, and none of them were as enthusiastic as this.
I dunno, is it a genre thing?
Big shout out to @JasonAQuest for doing a stellar job in colouring the stories for my upcoming Smiling Damned book, and completing the work in record time. You're a champion, JQ.
Spent the entire weekend doing homework, aside from a trip to the physiotherapist and a Skype session with wife and spawn in Japan. Exhausted and demoralized. White-knuckling through.
I need a fucking holiday.
Thanks, @TrevorAMueller! I can't take any credit--Graeme came up with the idea himself after reading the book. There are four different characters in unrelated stories and he came up witht his idea himself. The only direction I really gave him was that I didn't want a McBlack cover (although he is in the book), since I wasn't sure I would include that story or not. So Graeme made him a shadow on the wall.
Mainly, though, I love that the cover tells a story.
Followed up on the Phantom. Nada yet.
Sent off a short story. Wasn't planning to send Torque out again but a thing came up and it fitted and when I read it again I remembered why I thought it was my best. Smartened up the opening on The Well-Tempered Clavier, that other long one that I spent some with October--I'll try to proof it and send it off this week. I have another short I will continue dicking around with in the background, Tolerance to Iron. Oh, and I need to find another market for Contract Lore. Fuck me, I'd love to end the year (or start the next one) with a short story sale.
But back to comics by next weekend.
1/ Long-promised short story for Matt Kyme's DEMON book.
2/ Short story for Steve H anti-gun violence anthology.
3/ Draw my page of FUCKING FORTY
4/ Letter the end of GOURMAND GO.
Do you use any kind of organizer or checklist to keep track of your projects or progress? I think I need to start doing that. Some kind of system that provides me with some visual confirmation that I'm making progress would be good for morale. It would also motivate me maybe. Nothing like seeing checkmarks on a "to-do" list...
Well done Franks. Many plates-a-spinnin'. Good fortune to you.
This work log is as close to an organizer system as I have. I admit I am overwhelmed and have no good way of keeping track. I am, however, pretty good at making sure I use my time well and staying on top of deadlines. I'm used to having a bunch of projects in flight.
Opened up Shadowmancy again last night. I haven't looked at it since the depressing day that I cancelled the contract with the now-defunct old publisher.
Have identified the places where I want to make changes... just expanding on adding a plot point. I want this to come out next yer once I have consolidated my audience a bit with Faerie Apocalypse.
Halfway through my Clavier edit. The new opening works well and it's proven fairly clean, although I have trimmed off a few more words here and there. Not as good a story as Torque, though. Hopefully I can get the rest sorted tonight. I feel like it needs another proofing pass though.
Clavier draft is done. I've now cut 10% of the wordcount from the previous version, which is... not as much as I really hoped but about what I could have reasonably expected. 6300 words should be a easier to sell that 7K.
Needs a proofing pass still but this sucker's done.
