Yo! I know I lag on check-ins these days. Been tied up with freelance work in other venues. BUT: - Recruited more contributors for the new Vegas anthology and worked with writer on outlining the overarching story, so there's that. - Wrote about 20 pages total on scripts for two different pitches in progress - Submitted a thing for a comics thing that I ain't talkin' about
Otherwise, I'm prepping for Phoenix Comicon, which is barely a week away. Already started getting commission requests, so ... yep.
Eyes are about to burn out of my head thanks to all the lightscreen viewing. I'm 12 pages (of 95) away from completing Rewrite #2. What will more than likely follow is several print-outs and possibly two more rounds of proper rewrites. At the very least, heavy editing.
Also? My artist for the creator-owned has 4 more pages (of 24) till he's done with his duties (see: all of the art).
Also-also? Trying to stay off the web as much as possible--weird how much shit you can get done, when you're not playing around. But this doesn't count, does it? Does it?!
Got back from TCAF and vacation last week, been settling in, got some new layouts done to go with a few new pages of scrip written while on was on the road for Dream Life, was going to start pencilling one of them today but the day's been gobbled up by setting up a new work station. About to try to get at them now...
Email from Jason Paulos today asking for descriptions for the cover he's doing for Pack Rules. Not sure when it's out, but if the publisher Jason P on the cover already I expect it will be very soon. Fuck yeah!
Wrote some new pages for the expanded Bucket of Glass pitch.
Art coming in from Paul Abstruse. Lots of editing duties going on. Prose.
PJ: I'm aware of that. Don't mean I'm happy about it.
Actually, I'm just kidding. Marv and I spoke about his busy schedule and my schedule, and we opted to do the short DAILY GRIND together so he could do the two other things.
@RussellLissau just be glad I haven't personally poached him! @JasonAQuest I'm sorry, sir, what do you know about life pairings? Your people are nothing but promiscuous heathens!!
"Your people"? Do you mean Scots-Nordic Canadians or Hispano-Anglo Hoosiers? Or... writer-artists? (Where is a put-up-your-dukes emoticon when you need one?)
Had a hard time getting out of bed this morning after pencilling late last night. But at least I got a few more story beats down before getting up and wrote an overdue outline to the current Conny Van Ehlsing adventure over breakfast. In the current incarnation, it's going to be an eight-pager.
The usual stuff since then. It's a Thursday, so the usual stuff mostly constisted of scanning and finishing tomorrow's Conny page with a side dish of finishing tomorrow's German page while having Facebook conversations about the German comics market and book pricing. Oh, and making jokes about the Rapture. Which is also part of The Work because I'm in the middle of a Conny adventure, and the last thing I need is an ascension on Saturday.
Just finished my second true rewrite of a screenplay. It's amazing how brief one must be--everything must come in snippets or you lose the audience. I have 12 more days of this. I imagine that'll be just enough.
Drawing, working up characters and figuring out how I want stuff to look. I started using my new Kuretake last night and it's wonderful. I also got some Zebra G nibs and they are very nice, really flexible and a good line.
Today, I should have compiled a list for a project, written a mail informing my readers about the contest I'm in and where they can vote for my comic, finished an ebook and uploaded some comics to several forums. Instead, I finished Monday's GATE CRASH. Oh well. Win some, lose some.
Much to my surprise, I appear to be developing a ladyfriend. (Jimmie, I know you can relate.) I don't think this is going to impact my DOING THE WORK substantially, because for one thing she understands (she's a comics geek, AND she works in medicine — so she gets Witch Doctor), and for another she's extremely busy and I'm unlikely to see her more than once a week, if that.
I did some writing today. Nothing major, just working out some more dialog for my "writing in May" script, and adding some last-minute "creator's commentary" to the Captain Miracle page that went live this evening. All while on half doses of oxycontin and valium, which I no longer find "necessary", but still serve to keep me comfortable, and that's the story I'm sticking to for now.
Writing. And lots of it. Trying to make everything sexy, brief, sexy, brief. Have also planned out in minutia detail what I need to do/accomplish regarding said project in the next 10 days.
Also, all this religious stuff reminded me of a Sixsmiths strip we did in 2009. I went looking for it and discovered that we never ran it, although we had full art and letters done! A happy oversight. Here it is now: http://bit.ly/kLRknO
I'm kinda battling a creative burnout while drawing another Spinning short by Steve Horton. Mind you I'm happy to be drawing that and I'm succeeding but I need a bigger creative spark.
