Here's the sample comic page I got to send you. This project is set to be published both in print and as an interactive motion comic on the iPad, so there are a few extra requirements (basically keep everything in layers and dont flatten them).
Right now we're in need of someone to do digital inking that can match this style. It would have to be done in layers that are suitable for animating (which can be discussed/briefed in more detail later), and to that end may require extending or drawing under layers so foreground elements can move about.
Likewise we need someone todo digital colouring that can match this style, again, maintaining the layers set up by the inker so the entire page can be animated for iPad.
I'm not sure what the pay would be, how fast the pages would come, or those details. That is something for the production managers and whatnot to negotiate, but as far as I've heard it'd be fairly standard rates or possibly higher than standard. Preference goes to anyone in or near Toronto for accessibility. Other than that for tax purposes Ontario is preferable, if not Canada, though if it's foreign it's definitely not a deal breaker.
if you have any questions about the creative side of the project you can ask the art director Alex Mayhew, and if you have any questions about deadlines, pay rates, or anything on the production side the project manager Mae Garcia will know.
GrayHaven is accepting writing subs for their latest round of anthologies (they're always looking for artists/colorists/letterers): http://www.grayhavencomics.com/submit/
Also, Darby Pop (who publish through IDW) are holding a writing contest; the rules are akin to Top Cow's Talent Hunt (i.e. 22 page script), but I emailed to ask and they're not limiting the contest to unpublished writers. Could be worth a look, assuming you have some familiarity with their books (or are willing to throw a few bucks at comiXology to read em): http://www.darbypop.com/beyond-the-cover/breaking-into-comics/
The Outré anthology is the brainchild of Norwegian comic book creators Magnus Aspli and Glenn Møane. Both fans of short stories, we started toying with the idea of launching an online anthology with a strong emphasis on quality and meaning.
With Outréwe want to deliver a thoughtful and unique product with superb quality in art and storytelling. Features stories by hungry creators who have something to say.
Initially Outré will be published online two times a year. It will be available for free as a downloadable file from our website, and in the future a few other channels. For free.
Each issue will feature four stories by four different creative teams, as well as two in-depth creator conversations and four stand-alone illustrations playing on the theme of the issue. Each story in Outré should be completely self-contained and exactly eight pages in length – no exceptions. Naturally, each story remains the property of the creators involved.
With strong focus on creating a consistent and thoughtful anthology, each issue of Outré will be theme-oriented. The creators involved are presented with a theme which they can approach in any way they like. Genre, style and tone are all up to the creator(s), as long as the resulting story is about the current theme.
The first issue of Outré was about responsibility.
And reportedly face some of the most critical, unforgiving submission review in the industry. Most of the British-Invasion-era comics writers cut their teeth writing Future Shocks, and every wannabe in the UK tries to follow in their footsteps.
A new anthology project from Spike Trotman of Smut Peddler.
New World, is a black-and-white sci-fi/fantasy comic anthology set to debut in the spring of 2015. Iron Circus Comics is currently seeking 8–10 submissions with the theme of exploration, colonization, conquest, assimilation, "going native," appropriation, imperialism, strained relations... essentially, what happens when mutually un-contacted cultures, continents, and species collide. We want your strangest stories about situations where characters are encountering—and having to deal with—the alien.
I sent in a script (with appropriate submission waiver) but never got any kind of confirmation in response. It's not uncommon for editors to not send one, and I have plenty of pessimistic thoughts on the contest itself (i.e. it's basically a stunt to boost the flagging sales of one of their books; and a $500 prize isn't going to let you quit your day job), but for a contest, you'd think there'd be at least a form response.
Honestly...I kinda got two issues into the actual series and while Stingray was the most interesting character by far, nothing else about the world really grabbed me. I just filed away "superheroine and crime Svengali" as a concept, and moved on.
SUBMISSIONS WANTED! I'm Editorial Director of a new horror anthology comic book for Kerry Gammill's MONSTERVERSE™, which will be published by IDW in early 2015. We're currently accepting submissions from writers and artists. Specifically, we are wanting short, atmospherically creepy tales, emphasizing monsters and the supernatural, with shock-endings in the EC and Warren tradition. Please send submissions and inquiries to: submissions@monsterverse.com
I... might submit to that one, @DinoCaruso, but am I the only one who's sick of EC/Warren pastiches?
I love those old horror comics but man, that shit is dated--and even and it feels like four out of five horror anthologies do the same shtick. I've been in some.
